Sweden won WFC 2006 beating Finland 7 goals to 6 but only after a goal in 'sudden death' extra time. Finland were down to 4 outfield players after a contraversial sending off when Sweden scored. Make your own mind up after watching the video!
The World Championships in 2006 was an amazing event, held in Stockholm's spherical, world class stadium over the last week in May. Several of the members of Southern Vipers Floorball Club bought tickets and here are some of the things we saw during our trip.
SOME INTERESTING FACTS
The teams were on average substituting all the outfield players every 45 seconds, even when there wasn't a natural break in the match.
Many teams were using up to 3 lines (of 5 outfield players) plus netminder.
There were over 12000 spectators for the final and many more watched at home on Eurosport and Swedish national television.
Germany got knocked out of Group A, the elite divison of the World Cup, meaning that they will have to face Britain in the next World Cup in Prague in 2008.
Team GB knocked Australia out of the bottom of Group B and so they won't be attending next time. Sorry sport!
