Farnham Scouts Floorball Tournaments

The Winning Team!

The Coolest Pose!

On Saturday 18th November the 2nd (Hale) scout troop won Britain's first ever Scouts Floorball Tournament.

Five Scout teams from across Farnham District met at the FARNBOROUGH Leisure Centre to compete for the Canberra Cup in a tournament. Many of the players were new to floorball and after a quick recap on the rules the teams played each other in a mini league. Eventually 5th (Bourne) were level with the 2nd (Hale) at the top of the table with 3 wins each, and so a play-off final was needed. 2nd (Hale) scored first but then the 5ths quickly equalised. Eventually Hale broke the deadlock with a final goal to win the game and become tournament champions.

Most of the players were playing Floorball for the first time and enjoyed the opportunity to try a new sport. The games were all played in good spirit and were enjoyed by a number of parents and other spectators.

2008 TOURNAMENT

40 Scouts took part in this year's Farnham District Scout Floorball tournament which took place on 27th January at Farnborough Leisure Centre. Teams came from as far as Elstead and Hale to play at the Sunday afternoon event.

The 3rds from central Farnham won in the end with the 4ths (Tongham) finishing a close second. Elstead came third.

Despite running their own training session in the weeks before the tournament, the 3rds had an email problem before the event and many parents were not notified in time for the event. Consequently the 3rds were short handed on the day, but in the best traditions of Scouts' sportsmanship, the 4ths (Tongham) loaned some players to the 3rds to make up the numbers.

Most Valuable Player 1st Place
Most Valuable Players 2nd and 3rd Place

Farnham Unihockey & Floorball Club, who play at Farnham Sports Centre at 5pm on Saturdays during school term time, sponsored the event. Sticks, balls and sweatbands were provided as prizes for the three Most Valuable Players on the day. The number of goals and goal assists was recorded and a player from the 4ths (Tongham) managed to recover some of their pride by picking up the prize as MVP for the tournament.

The event was judged a great success by everyone who attended. Many thanks to the GB Floorball Federation who provided assistance with the refereeing and scoreboards.
