Cup 2009

Farnham's youth floorball team, the Farnham Fireballs, achieved a magnificent result by winning a silver medal at the Youth National Floorball Cup last weekend. The British Championships took place over 2 days in Gloucester with more than 16 teams competing. The Farnham side stormed their way through the qualifying stages beating Shipston by 12-1 and the Arrows 3-1. The match against the Hawks was a disappointing 2-2 draw, a shot from the Hawks appeared to get in through the side netting and unfortunately the goal was still allowed. The team then retired to the 13th Century castle, St Briavels, where they were staying for the weekend.

The semi-final on Sunday was against the mighty Dragons who have some of the top players from the League. However Fireballs truly met fire with fire and dispatched the Dragons with a 7-2 win. The goals from Andrew Field, Roope Rantala and Josh Purnell put the team through in last two in style. The final was against the current British Champions and Youth
League Champions, the Eagles from Warwichshire. The Farnham side rose to the challenge and took the game into the Eagles half, with most of the early shots, sending the title holders onto the back foot but eventually the incredible passing skills and drag shots of the Eagles took their toll. The game ended 5-0 to the title holders. Andrew Clough the GBFUA Refereeing Director said "We were very impressed with the way that the Farnham team has been completely transformed, a year ago they finished 6th but this year they simply stood up to and outgunned most of the other teams they met."

Farnham Fireballs also entered a second team of younger layers in the competition and although they didn't achieve the same success they played with passion in all of their matches finishing 9th.
